GSTN Postpones e‑Way Bill Rule Until Further Notice
GSTN, the agency that runs India’s tax network, decided to delay a new rule for e‑Way Bills that was supposed to start on 1 August 2026.
The rule would have made companies write the buyer’s tax ID on the bill and let them cancel a bill if the goods weren’t shipped.
Businesses and software makers don’t have to change their systems right now.
The delay gives them more time to test and fix problems.
The change was postponed again after earlier delays, so it’s on hold until the government says otherwise.
GSTN has postponed the e‑Way Bill changes that were due on 1 August 2026.
The changes would have added a mandatory Ship‑To GSTIN field and a voluntary closure facility.
Businesses, transporters and GST software providers are exempt from making ERP or software changes until further notice.
Industry experts say the deferment reflects operational complexity and gives firms time to prepare and test.
The postponement follows earlier delays; the rule was first slated for 15 June, then 1 August, now indefinite.
