Sensex, Nifty 50 Rise; Mid, Small-Caps Falter Amid US Yields
On July 30, the two biggest Indian stock market indexes, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, went up for the second day in a row.
Big companies like Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Mahindra & Mahindra helped lift the market.
But the smaller companies, called mid‑caps and small‑caps, went down because investors were worried.
The reason for the worry is that the United States Federal Reserve said it might raise interest rates again starting in September.
Higher US bond yields make investors nervous about buying stocks, so they are more careful.
Sensex and Nifty 50 ended higher on July 30, marking a second straight gain.
Heavyweights such as Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Mahindra & Mahindra drove the gains.
Mid‑cap and small‑cap indices slipped, reflecting investor caution.
The US Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged but hinted at possible hikes from September.
Rising US bond yields weighed on market sentiment.
