India’s football team will soon play three much stronger teams: Panama, Brazil and Uruguay.

The games will be held in India in September and October.

Coach Khalid Jamil says his team will try to compete instead of simply trying to lose by fewer goals.

Brazil, Uruguay and Panama all have higher FIFA rankings than India.

Khalid has selected some young players and left out several experienced ones.

He says this is part of building a team for the future.

India also has a challenge finding goals after Sunil Chhetri retired from international football.

Quotes

Khalid Jamil

India’s head coach

“No coach prepares a team to lose a match or contain the margin of defeat. It’s a negative mindset. We will fight till the end. We know Brazil are from a different planet, Uruguay are exceptionally strong and Panama are brilliant. But football will be played on the field. Anything is possible. I can vouch that my players will give a very good account of themselves”

“These matches will help Indian football immensely. This could be the turning point for the game in the country. The buzz and excitement the Brazil friendly has generated is mind-blowing. Now Uruguay and Panama will be here (in India). I am confident our football will extract maximum benefit from these three friendlies”
