CBI Registers ₹20-Crore EPF Fraud Probe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) started a case on July 30, 2026, after learning that a telecom company might have made fake employee accounts in the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF).
The company had to give all its old savings to the EPF when it stopped being an exempted business in September 2023.
Some people complained that 70 fake members were added and that about ₹20 crore was taken from the fund.
The CBI is looking into whether two company officials and some EPF staff helped this fraud.
The investigation will check the records and see if the money was wrongly taken out of the fund.
CBI registered a case on 30 July 2026 for alleged ₹20‑crore EPF fraud.
The fraud involves fake provident fund members added during the surrender of exemption.
The telecom company surrendered its exemption in September 2023 and was required to transfer all past accumulations to the EPFO.
Grievances via CPGRAMS highlighted 70 purported fake members and illegal withdrawal of funds.
Internal investigation by the company identified two officials as responsible for processing the fraudulent transfers.
