Delhi Mandates QR Codes in Road Signage
The Public Works Department in Delhi has made it a rule that all new road signs must have QR codes.
These QR codes will give information about who made the sign, when it was made, and other details.
This is to make sure all signs look the same and are easy to see.
People will also be able to scan these QR codes to report problems with the signs or roads using a special app called 'PWD Sewa'.
The signs will have a 10-year warranty, meaning if there are any problems, they will be fixed for free during this time.
The department is also planning to add more features to the QR codes in the future to help people report issues.
Delhi's PWD has made QR codes mandatory in road signage to provide manufacturer details and ensure uniformity.
QR codes must be placed in the bottom right corner of signage and include details like manufacturer's name, manufacturing date, and warranty information.
The department is working on connecting QR codes to the 'PWD Sewa' app for residents to file complaints about road issues.
The warranty period for retro-reflective sheeting is 10 years from the date of installation.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways highlighted the need for uniform road signage in a 2024 audit.
