July 31, 2026: Final Income Tax Return Deadline in India
In India, people who earn money have to tell the government how much they earned by filing a form called an Income Tax Return.
Most people must file this form by July 31, 2026.
Some business owners who don’t need an audit can file until August 31, 2026.
If you don’t file on time, you might have to pay extra money or lose your refund.
After you file, you must confirm it with a code sent to your phone or bank.
If you don’t confirm, the return is not accepted.
The government has not said it will give more time, so it’s best to file early to avoid problems.
July 31, 2026 is the final filing deadline for most taxpayers filing ITR‑1, ITR‑2, ITR‑5, and ITR‑7.
Taxpayers filing ITR‑3 or ITR‑4 with business or professional income who are not required to audit can file until August 31, 2026.
The Income Tax Department has not announced any extension; the deadline remains unchanged.
Filing before the deadline avoids late filing fees, interest, and ensures timely refunds and tax benefits.
Taxpayers must e‑verify their returns via Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or other approved modes; unverified returns are invalid.
