Australia Tightens Student Visa Rules Without Closing Study Route

Australia Tightens Student Visa Rules Without Closing Study Route

Australia has changed some rules for people who want to study there from another country.

Most new students will not be able to bring their spouse or children on the same student visa.

Some students, including certain PhD students and people from Pacific and ASEAN countries, may have special arrangements.

Families already in Australia will not be separated by these new rules.

Students who change to another course at the same level may need to apply for a new visa.

After finishing a course, their next course should usually be a higher academic level.

Australia says these changes are meant to stop people from switching courses just to stay longer.

The country is still planning for 295,000 new overseas student commencements in 2027, so genuine students can continue to apply.
