BMC to Spend ₹1.5 Crore on New Official Vehicles
The Mumbai city council wants to buy new cars for the mayor and six other important officials.
They plan to spend about 1.5 crore rupees.
The new cars are supposed to be more comfortable for people who travel from far suburbs like Dahisar, Kandivli, and Borivali.
The mayor says they are not starting a new bidding process, just asking for a different car.
Some officials say they didn't ask for a new car, and the proposal will go to the city commissioner for approval.
BMC proposes replacing Mahindra Scorpio‑N vehicles of Mayor Ritu Tawde and five other elected officials with new multi‑utility vehicles at a cost of ₹1.5 crore.
The move aims to improve comfort for officials who commute from distant suburbs such as Dahisar, Kandivli, and Borivali.
Ritu Tawde defended the proposal, saying no fresh tender is being floated and chairpersons only requested a different vehicle.
Some officials, like Kishori Pednekar, denied requesting a replacement, while Ganesh Khankar said the proposal would be forwarded to Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide for approval.
BMC plans to relocate the existing Scorpio‑N vehicles to ward offices, and the only senior official currently using an electric vehicle is Ashwini Bhide.
