BMC Approves Neville D’Souza Ground Convention Centre Conversion

Mumbai’s civic body has approved a plan to change a football ground into a convention and exhibition centre.

The ground is called Neville D’Souza Football Ground and is in Bandra Reclamation.

It covers about 8,450 square metres.

The ground has a full-sized FIFA-standard turf and seating for about 5,000 people.

Football clubs and young players use it regularly.

Opponents say Mumbai needs to protect one of its few dedicated football venues.

The Mumbai Football Association has taken the dispute to the Bombay High Court.

Officials say another ground will be provided, but opponents worry that the replacement may not happen.

The court is expected to consider the challenge after responses are filed.
