Consumer Court Orders Airline to Pay for Three Lost Bags

Consumer Court Orders Airline to Pay for Three Lost Bags

A passenger was traveling home after his wedding with relatives and friends.

Airline staff allegedly asked him to leave three bags at Delhi airport because there was not enough time and the airport was busy.

They promised to send the bags to Raipur the next day.

When he arrived, the bags were not on the baggage belt.

The airline later said the bags were missing.

It refused to pay him, pointing to its baggage rules and reporting requirements.

The consumer commission said the airline had accepted the bags and had not explained what happened to them.

It ordered the airline to pay Rs 1.82 lakh, plus interest on part of the award.

The decision indicates that technical rules may not protect an airline when it asked a passenger to leave baggage and promised to deliver it.
