TGPWU Urges Immediate Renewal of Expired Accident Insurance Scheme
Imagine a safety net that helps auto drivers, Home Guards, and journalists if they get into an accident.
This safety net, called the Rs 5 lakh Accident Insurance Scheme, expired in October 2024.
Now, over a million people are not protected anymore.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union wants the government to bring back and improve this safety net, making it bigger and better.
They also want the government to speed up helping people who have already made claims and make sure this doesn't happen again.
This is important because it protects those who work hard to keep the city running.
The Rs 5 lakh accident insurance scheme for workers in Telangana has expired.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) is urging for immediate renewal and expansion of the scheme.
Over 13.11 lakh beneficiaries are now without coverage since the scheme expired on October 8, 2024.
454 claims totaling Rs 22.7 crore from 2019-2024 are unsettled.
