Hegseth rejects USS Abraham Lincoln hardship reports amid record deployment

A very big ship full of about 5,000 sailors, called the USS Abraham Lincoln, has been sailing far from home for more than 240 days.

It is in the Middle East to help the United States in a fight with Iran.

Some newspapers and senators say the sailors are running out of important things like food, water, soap and mail, and that some sailors feel very sad or stressed.

The person in charge of the US military, Pete Hegseth, says those stories are not true and that the Navy is taking good care of everyone on the ship.

He said the sailors are doing an amazing job even though it is hard.

Some senators want to visit the ship to check for themselves.

The Navy says it gave sailors food and hygiene items first, and that they now have clean water and healthy meals.

The Navy also says it has not seen more sailors trying to hurt themselves.

Meanwhile, another aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington, is sailing to the Middle East, and some people worry that leaves the Pacific Ocean without a US carrier to keep watch there.
