West Bengal Experiences First Sub-20°C Morning in Kolkata Amid Dry Weather
It's getting colder in West Bengal, and Kolkata just had its first morning this season where the temperature dropped below 20 degrees Celsius.
The coldest spot was Darjeeling, with a chilly 10 degrees.
This is happening because cold, dry winds are blowing in from the north and west, and there's not much moisture in the air.
Experts say this weather pattern is making the nights much cooler.
The weather is expected to stay dry for the next week, and temperatures might go down even more, possibly reaching 18 degrees in Kolkata in the next couple of days.
This cold spell is also being felt in other nearby states.
Kolkata experienced its first minimum temperature below 20°C this season, recorded at 19.2°C, which is 2°C below normal.
Darjeeling was the coldest place in West Bengal, with a minimum temperature of 10°C, while Sriniketan recorded 14.8°C in the plains.
Dry weather is predicted to prevail across West Bengal for the next seven days, with minimum temperatures expected to remain largely unchanged for the next five days.
The drop in temperature is attributed to cold and dry northwesterly winds and a significant dip in atmospheric moisture content.
Temperatures in Kolkata are forecast to fall further, potentially reaching 18°C in the next one to two days.
