Andaman & Nicobar Seeks Public Input for Naming 586 Islands

Andaman & Nicobar Seeks Public Input for Naming 586 Islands

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a lot of small islands, but only 31 are where people live.

The government there wants to give names to 586 of the empty islands.

They are asking regular people, tribes, teachers, and others to suggest names.

The names should be about important things like local tribes, brave soldiers, famous people, plants and animals, and special places.

After they pick the names, they will send them to the central government for approval.

A group called the Survey of India is helping with maps and other technical stuff.

Last year, the Prime Minister named 21 islands after very brave soldiers.

This is a big project to make sure the islands have the right names and to remember important things about the area.
