India Sends More Aid as Nepal Flood Rescue Continues
A powerful flash flood hit parts of Nepal near the Tibet and China borders.
It destroyed homes, roads, bridges, vehicles, and power facilities.
Many people died, and many others could not be contacted.
Reports gave different numbers for missing Indians because officials were still checking several lists.
Some reports said about 105 or up to 133 Indians were missing, while later reports mentioned more than 300.
Officials said the flood may have been caused by an avalanche blocking a river, while earlier accounts mentioned heavy rain and a possible glacier burst.
India and Nepal are working together to find people and help survivors.
India sent shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, medicines, food packets, and other supplies.
Emergency phone numbers were provided for Indians needing help.
Flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa region killed at least nearly 100 people, with one later report putting the toll at 162.
Reports gave varying figures for missing Indians, ranging from 105 and 133 to more than 300, as records remained preliminary.
The floods swept through Timure and the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli corridors, damaging homes, vehicles, bridges, roads, and hydropower projects.
India is coordinating search-and-rescue efforts with Nepal and has placed National Disaster Response Force teams on high alert.
India sent a first 10-tonne aid consignment and a second shipment carrying 37.5 tonnes of relief material, medicines, and food packets.
