Bhopal Woman Loses ₹35 Lakh in Digital Arrest Scam

Bhopal Woman Loses ₹35 Lakh in Digital Arrest Scam

Uma Samaddar, an LIC agent in Bhopal, was tricked by people pretending to be police officers.

They contacted her on a video call and showed what appeared to be a police headquarters.

They falsely said that ₹7 crore connected to terror funding was in her bank account.

They threatened to arrest her and her family for 45 days.

The scammers told her to send money to a government account for checking.

She first sent ₹21.5 lakh and later borrowed more money to send them about ₹35 lakh in total.

She reported the fraud to the Cyber Crime Branch on September 26, 2025.

An FIR was registered only after the case was reviewed and sent to Govindpura police.

Police say about ₹15 lakh has been frozen and efforts are continuing to recover it.
