Karnataka Challenges Cauvery Panel’s Order to Release Water

Karnataka Challenges Cauvery Panel’s Order to Release Water

A Cauvery water panel told Karnataka to send 6,000 cusecs of water each day to Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu had asked for even more water, 17,000 cusecs.

Karnataka’s water minister said the order was unfair because less water is flowing into the river basin.

He said Karnataka is already carefully saving water for people to drink.

The state is also supplying some water to farmers and filling lakes and ponds when possible.

Karnataka officials are worried about shortages for people and animals.

Another authority, the CWMA, was scheduled to discuss the issue.

Karnataka’s government may ask the Supreme Court to review the decision.

The BJP opposition is also holding a padayatra about the Cauvery dispute.
