India May Attend Taliban's Victory Day Event in Delhi

Last week, someone at Afghanistan's embassy in a city called New Delhi sent out invitations to a special party.

The party celebrates the day the group called the Taliban took over Afghanistan five years ago.

Many countries, including India, do not officially say the Taliban is the real government of Afghanistan.

But India has been talking to the Taliban anyway and letting them use the embassy.

A man named Randhir Jaiswal, who speaks for India's government about world matters, was asked about the party.

He said India and Afghanistan have been working together on trade, roads, and other helpful projects.

He reminded everyone that India and the Afghan people have been friends for a long time.

It looks like some senior Indian leaders might go to the party, which would be a big change.

One reason is that Afghanistan's friendship with Pakistan has gotten worse, so Afghanistan is looking for new friends like India.

Even if Indian leaders attend the party, it does not mean India officially recognizes the Taliban as the government.
