Mumbai Monorail Reopening Faces Three-to-Four-Month Safety Delay

Mumbai Monorail Reopening Faces Three-to-Four-Month Safety Delay

Mumbai’s monorail has been closed since September 2025 because trains had repeated technical problems.

Officials later upgraded the trains, signalling system, and tracks.

The upgraded system was declared safe for passengers in June.

However, officials are now considering adding nets below the elevated tracks.

The nets could stop loose pieces from falling onto roads and people.

Installing them may take another three or four months.

Some reports suggest trains could return around Diwali, while others say December is more likely.

If service returns earlier, it may initially operate only between Chembur and Wadala Depot.

Officials are still deciding whether nets are needed along the entire route or only in vulnerable areas.
