NK Singh Advocates Cooperative Federalism for Economic Growth
NK Singh, a famous economist, spoke at a big meeting of economists.
He said that democracy and economic growth can work together.
He talked about how India's economy grew slower than China's and other countries in the past.
He also said that India needs to learn from its mistakes and work together to keep the economy stable.
He mentioned that the new labor laws need cooperation between the central and state governments.
The meeting also showed 108 cartoons to celebrate its 108th year.
NK Singh emphasized that democracy and development are compatible and can be harmonized for sustained economic growth.
He noted that India and China had similar economic sizes until 1980, but by 2023, China's per capita income was 5.5 times that of India.
Singh highlighted that countries like South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore prioritized exports for economic growth, unlike India.
He stressed the importance of cooperative federalism and macroeconomic stability, requiring alignment between Union and State fiscal policies.
The conference featured 108 cartoons by N Ravikanth, published in The Hindu businessline, to mark its 108th anniversary.
