India's Railway Expansion Projects Boost Connectivity
India is building two new railway lines to make travel and transportation better.
The first line, called the Khurda Road–Balangir Line, is 301 kilometers long and will connect different parts of Odisha.
It includes tunnels, bridges, and special paths for animals to ensure their safety.
The second project is in Mumbai, where they are adding two more tracks between Badlapur and Karjat.
This will help separate different types of trains, making travel faster and more reliable.
Both projects aim to improve the lives of people and the environment.
Odisha is constructing the 301-km Khurda Road–Balangir New Railway Line to connect coastal and western regions.
The project includes extensive engineering works like tunnels, viaducts, and high embankments to navigate the undulating terrain.
Key features include India's second-longest railway viaduct and integration with the upcoming Bhrutang irrigation project reservoir.
The line will have elephant underpasses and overpasses, and wildlife corridors to minimize habitat fragmentation and reduce human–animal conflict.
Once operational, the line is expected to boost trade, improve transportation, support tourism, and strengthen the rail network while prioritizing environmental safeguards.
The Union Cabinet approved the construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Badlapur and Karjat to ease congestion in Mumbai’s busiest rail corridor.
The 32-km stretch will separate suburban, express, and freight traffic, improving punctuality and passenger experience.
The project involves laying two additional tracks, building over 100 minor bridges, several major bridges, and upgrading signalling systems.
The new lines are expected to reduce delays, improve punctuality, increase freight capacity, and lower CO₂ emissions.
