Chenab Bridge Inaugurated After 17 Years, Linking Kashmir by Rail
The Chenab Rail Bridge, a very tall railway bridge, just opened in India.
A professor named Dr. G Madhavi Latha worked on it for 17 years.
The bridge is over a river in a place with tricky mountains and possible earthquakes.
Dr. Latha's team had to be creative because the ground wasn't what they expected.
They made new ways to ensure the bridge was safe.
The bridge connects different parts of India by train and is a significant achievement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, 2025.
The bridge is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, connecting Kashmir to the rest of India by rail.
Dr. G Madhavi Latha, a geotechnical engineering professor, played a key role in the project for 17 years.
The bridge is 358 meters above the riverbed and 1,315 meters long, designed to last 120 years.
Latha's team used a "design-as-you-go" approach, adapting to challenges like fractured rock and high winds.
