Assam Floods 2026: 145,000 Hectares Submerged, 78 Killed
In July 2026, big floods hit the Indian state of Assam.
They covered a huge area—about 145,000 hectares—so many villages were underwater.
Over 600,000 people were affected and at least 78 people died.
The worst hit district was Sivasagar, where 44,600 hectares were flooded.
The floods were caused by very heavy rain in nearby Nagaland and also in parts of Assam itself.
The government is still on high alert because more rain is expected.
Over 6 lakh people affected and at least 78 deaths reported in Assam floods.
Seven districts—Charaideo, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Biswanath, Jorhat, Kamrup—were officially under flood as of July 30, 2026.
Satellite analysis shows 145,120 hectares submerged between July 10–29, 2026, with Sivasagar most impacted (44,600 hectares).
Crop losses: 6,650 hectares in Sivasagar, 1,720 in Golaghat, 11,600 in Charaideo, 864 in Jorhat.
Heavy rainfall in Nagaland and localized extreme rains in Assam triggered the floods; an Orange Alert remains in effect.
