Sensex and Nifty Drop as Realty and PSU Banks Drag Markets
The stock markets in India, specifically the Sensex and Nifty, fell sharply on Tuesday.
This happened because investors were worried about several things.
First, the prices of crude oil went up due to tensions in West Asia.
This made people think that inflation might increase, which is bad for the economy.
Second, some specific types of stocks, like those related to real estate and public sector banks, saw a lot of selling.
This made the overall market go down.
The Sensex dropped by 715 points, and the Nifty fell below the important 24,000 mark.
Experts say that if the Nifty can stay above 24,200, it might start going up again.
But if it falls below 24,000, it could keep falling to around 23,800.
The broader market, which includes smaller and mid-sized companies, also saw big drops.
Some companies reported good earnings, but investors were more focused on the bigger economic worries.
Sensex declined 715.06 points (0.92%) to close at 76,755.05.
Nifty fell 191.45 points (0.79%) to settle at 23,996.25, below the 24,000 mark.
Selling pressure in realty and PSU banking stocks, along with rising crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions, weighed on investor sentiment.
Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices also ended lower, with drops of 1.09% and 1.54% respectively.
Sectorally, realty and media stocks led the decline, with losses of around 2.6% each.
