Madras High Court Praises New Criminal Laws
The Madras High Court recently praised new criminal laws in India that focus on making sure justice is delivered quickly.
These laws, called the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, aim to prevent delays in legal processes.
The court said these laws are a big change from the old rules and make sure investigations are completed on time.
In a case where a man's investigation was delayed, the court ordered the police to finish the investigation and file a report within eight weeks.
The court also said the police must explain in writing if they can't meet this deadline.
The Madras High Court praised new criminal laws for prioritizing timely justice and accountability.
Justice L Victoria Gowri called the implementation of these laws a 'constitutional transformation'.
The new laws mandate time-bound investigations, with most cases to be completed within 60-90 days.
The court ordered a police officer to complete an investigation and file a final report within eight weeks.
