State commission raises compensation for advocate’s surgical nerve damage

State commission raises compensation for advocate’s surgical nerve damage

An advocate had surgery on his left hip in December 2017.

After leaving the hospital, he said his left foot hurt and could not move properly.

He later learned that doctors had found nerve damage affecting the foot’s movement and feeling.

He said physiotherapy and treatment at another hospital did not solve the problem.

He complained that the doctor and hospital had not provided proper care.

A district consumer commission ordered them to pay Rs 50,000.

The Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission agreed there had been deficient service.

It increased the payment to Rs 70,000 because the advocate had suffered hardship and spent money pursuing the case.
