India’s Green Energy Corridor Targets Renewable Power Bottlenecks

India has built a very large amount of renewable power, especially from the Sun and wind.

But electricity is not always available when people need the most, such as in the evening.

Some solar electricity had to be reduced because the power lines and grid could not safely carry it.

The government’s Green Energy Corridor Phase-III plan aims to improve these power networks.

It is designed to move up to 135 gigawatts of renewable electricity.

The plan also includes batteries that can store 50 gigawatt-hours of energy.

Stronger power lines inside states could help carry electricity from renewable-energy areas to cities, factories and villages.

Building those lines may be slowed by land payments, land acquisition and environmental approvals.
