Railways Fined Rs 25,000 for One Blanket to Two RAC Passengers
A man was traveling on a train from Prayagraj to Delhi and had to share a blanket with another passenger.
He complained that this was uncomfortable and unfair.
The Delhi consumer court looked into the complaint and found that the train company broke a rule that says each passenger should get their own blanket.
The court fined the train company Rs 25,000, which includes Rs 20,000 for the man’s inconvenience and Rs 5,000 for legal costs.
The company must pay this money within 60 days or pay interest.
This case shows that train rules must be followed and passengers can get compensation if they are treated poorly.
Delhi Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission fined Indian Railways Rs 25,000 for providing one blanket to two unrelated RAC passengers.
Commission found Railways violated a 2009 government circular that allows a blanket and bedsheet for RAC passengers.
Railways had imposed a Rs 1,000 penalty on its linen contractor but did not inform the complainant or compensate him.
The complainant, traveling from Prayagraj to Delhi on 28 Oct 2022, alleged mental harassment and physical inconvenience due to a shared blanket.
Railways was directed to pay Rs 20,000 compensation and Rs 5,000 litigation costs, totaling Rs 25,000, within 60 days.
