Karnataka Assembly Passes 12 Bills

Karnataka Assembly Passes 12 Bills

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly had a busy day on Tuesday, December 16.

They passed 12 Bills in just over an hour.

One of the important Bills they passed was the Greater Bengaluru Governance (Second Amendment) Bill, which includes all MPs and MLAs who stay in Bengaluru and are on the electoral roll in the city as members of the Greater Bengaluru Authority.

The Deputy Chief Minister explained that this amendment ensures that public representatives like Sudha Murty and Nirmala Sitharaman, who are voters in Bengaluru, are included in the GBA.

The Assembly also passed other Bills related to land revenue, cultural activists' welfare, labour welfare, and religious institutions.

However, they decided to postpone talking about some more controversial Bills, like the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2025, and the Karnataka Social Boycott (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2025.

The other Bills that were passed did not have any opposition and went through smoothly.
