Assam to Table Report on ST Status for Six Communities
The Assam government is going to show a report to the Assembly about whether six groups of people in Assam should be recognized as 'Scheduled Tribes,' which would give them special rights.
The government talked to the groups for four years to write this report.
After the Assembly agrees with it, they will send it to the central government in Delhi.
The report will decide how many spots each group gets in government jobs and schools, and if any changes are needed for other groups already in place.
The government wants to make sure the groups get what they need, and this follows the groups asking for this to happen.
Assam government will present a report on ST status for six communities.
The report follows extensive consultations with community representatives.
The report will be presented in the Assembly session in October-November.
