Ethiopia to Adopt India's Poverty Alleviation Model
Imagine Ethiopia wants to help its poor people, especially women, earn more money and escape poverty.
They learned about a successful program in India called DAY-NRLM that helps women in villages.
Ethiopian leaders visited India to see how this program works, like how it helps women start businesses and connect with banks.
They were impressed by the community helpers, called 'sakhis', who assist women in their own villages.
Ethiopia plans to use these ideas to improve their own program, called PSNP.
The World Bank is also helping Ethiopia with this effort.
Both countries want to keep sharing ideas to make these programs even better.
Ethiopia plans to adopt India's flagship poverty alleviation initiative, DAY-NRLM, for its own Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP).
A high-level Ethiopian delegation visited India for a week to learn implementation strategies of DAY-NRLM.
Delegates were impressed by innovations like 'sakhis', bank linkages, and diversified livelihoods for women's empowerment.
The World Bank is committed to supporting women's livelihood transformation in Ethiopia and fostering collaboration.
Ethiopia aims to adapt India's successful models, emphasizing government leadership, policy, and institutional collaboration.
