Delhi Plans Taller Campuses, Residential Schools and Private Universities
Delhi is planning new rules for schools and universities.
The rules could allow private universities to open in the city.
International institutions could also create campuses or smaller off-campus centres.
One-fourth of seats at private universities would be set aside for Delhi students.
Schools could become taller because some height limits would be removed.
Residential schools would also be allowed for the first time under the new master plan.
Schools could host coaching and vocational classes after regular hours.
The government says these changes would use Delhi’s limited land better and keep education businesses in the city.
Delhi’s proposed private universities law would create a framework for private universities and allow international institutions and off-campus centres to operate in the capital.
The proposed law would reserve one-fourth of seats at private universities for Delhi students.
MPD-2047 would allow residential schools and remove height restrictions on schools and universities, enabling denser and taller construction.
Schools could host coaching and vocational centres after school hours, while allocating at least 15% of permitted FAR to extracurricular infrastructure.
The Narela education hub would expand to 340 acres, while about 150 square kilometres along Delhi’s border would be designated for institutional development.
