DA Merger with Basic Pay Unlikely for Central Govt Employees
Central government employees in India are discussing whether the government will merge their Dearness Allowance (DA) with their Basic Pay before the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are implemented.
The 8th Pay Commission is expected to take until the end of 2027 to be implemented, so employees are asking for this merger as a way to get some relief in the meantime.
However, the government has said that there are no plans to merge DA with Basic Pay.
Employee organizations argue that merging DA with Basic Pay would increase their salaries and benefits, and better reflect the actual inflation.
But the government and previous pay commissions have said that merging DA with Basic Pay is not necessary because the current system already compensates for inflation.
So, it seems unlikely that the government will merge DA with Basic Pay anytime soon.

The 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are expected to take until the end of 2027 to be implemented.
Employee organizations have demanded the merger of DA with Basic Pay as interim relief, arguing it would increase salaries and benefits and better reflect inflation.
The government has stated that there is no proposal under consideration to merge DA with Basic Pay, maintaining that the current system adequately compensates for inflation.
Previous pay commissions, such as the 6th Pay Commission, have also recommended against merging DA with Basic Pay, citing administrative convenience and the need to maintain a lower DA rate in the future.
