NIA Seeks In-Camera Hearing for Yasin Malik's Terror Funding Case Appeal
A special prosecutor for the NIA asked a court to not hold a public hearing for a case involving Yasin Malik, a leader who is in jail.
The NIA wants Yasin Malik to receive the death penalty instead of his current life sentence for funding terrorism.
The prosecutor asked if Yasin could appear through a private video link.
Yasin Malik, who speaks for himself in court, agreed to wait for the hearing but asked for it to happen soon because being in jail for so long is very hard on him.
He also told the court that he has spoken with many important people in the past, including prime ministers and leaders from a group called RSS, to help keep peace in his home region.
He says he did not fund terrorism and that the NIA does not have proof.
The NIA requested the Delhi High Court to hear Yasin Malik's terror funding case appeal away from the public.
The NIA is appealing for the death penalty for Yasin Malik, who is currently serving a life sentence.
Yasin Malik appeared via video conference from Tihar jail and requested an early hearing, citing psychological torture.
Malik submitted an affidavit in a sealed cover, claiming past engagement with Prime Ministers and RSS leadership to maintain peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
The court has scheduled the consideration of the NIA's request for January 28.
