India Proposes Rules for Two‑Wheeler Ambulances to Reach Remote Areas
India’s transport ministry said it wants to make rules for special two‑wheel vehicles that can act like ambulances.
These vehicles will have to follow new safety rules and get checked every two years.
The rules will help doctors reach people in villages, mountains, and places where big ambulances can’t go.
The government will let each state decide where these bikes can work.
The new rules start on October 1, 2027.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways drafts regulations for two‑wheeled ambulances.
Vehicles must meet new AIS‑209 (Part 1):2026 standards from Oct 1 2027.
Rules aim to improve emergency response in rural, remote, and hilly regions.
States can decide where ambulances operate and must renew fitness certificates every two years.
Vehicles will be classified as transport vehicles and need mandatory fitness certification.
