MoRTH Cites Poor Reports as Cause for Tunnel Project Delays
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is concerned about delays in building long tunnels.
They've found that the problems often start because the initial reports, called DPRs, aren't good enough.
These reports don't always do a good job checking the ground conditions.
To fix this, MoRTH wants to be consulted early on, before the final plans are made.
This way, they can ensure the reports are thorough and help speed up the approval process.
The goal is to make sure tunnel projects are planned correctly from the beginning, saving time and money.
MoRTH says delays are occurring in long tunnel projects (over 1.5 km).
Poor detailed project reports (DPRs) are the main cause.
The ministry wants prior consultation for projects during the DPR stage.
Successful implementation of tunnels depends on proper geotechnical investigation.
The Ministry sent a letter to relevant departments including NHAI.
