Demands for Justice and Anti-Racial Laws After Tripura Student's Killing
A student named Anjel Chakma from Tripura was badly hurt and later died after being attacked by a group of men in Dehradun.
The men called him and his brother racial slurs like 'Chinki' and 'Chinese' before attacking them.
Many people from the Northeast are very upset and are demanding that the government make new laws to stop racism.
They also want the police to take the case seriously and punish the people who did this.
Some people think the police are not doing enough to solve the case because the attackers might have connections with powerful people.
There were protests in New Delhi asking for justice for Anjel.
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand promised to take strict action, but the family and friends of Anjel are not happy with how the police are handling the case.
Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student from Tripura, was attacked and killed in Dehradun on December 9, 2023, after being called racial slurs.
The Dehradun police initially refused to register an FIR and downplayed the racial motive, sparking outrage among northeastern organizations.
The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and other groups demanded a comprehensive anti-racial law and a CBI investigation into the case.
Protests were held in New Delhi, with students from the Northeast demanding justice and better protection for northeastern students.
The main accused, Yagyaraj Awasthi, fled to Nepal, and a reward of Rs 10 lakh was offered for information leading to his arrest.
