Meghalaya Court Orders Vigilance on Cement Firm's Mining
The Meghalaya High Court told the state government to watch Amrit Cement, a limestone mining company, closely.
The court's action is due to claims that the company has been illegally mining.
Although the government had previously said the company did nothing wrong after looking into it, the court wants to make sure the company follows its mining license.
The court wants the Chief Secretary to make sure the license is used correctly and nothing illegal is going on.
Every three months, the government will report if the company is following the rules.
The company said it hasn't started mining yet with its current license.
Meghalaya High Court directed the government to monitor Amrit Cement's operations.
The order followed allegations of illegal limestone mining by the company.
The company obtained a mining license on January 11, 2023.
The government previously absolved the company of wrongdoing after an inquiry.
The court ordered the Chief Secretary to ensure proper use of the license.
