Schools Shut in Four States for World Cup Final

Schools Shut in Four States for World Cup Final

Four Indian states—Kerala, Meghalaya, Bengal, and Mizoram—decided to close schools on July 20, 2026, so students could rest after watching the late-night World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.

Spain won the match, and many students stayed up to watch it.

The governments of these states understood that students would be too tired to attend school the next day, so they gave everyone a day off.

In Mizoram, government offices also had a half-day.

This decision was made to prioritize the well-being of students who were excited about the football match.
