MP High Court Seeks Explanation on Mauganj Violence
In Madhya Pradesh, there was a violent incident in Mauganj on March 15th.
People, including some from tribal families, were allegedly attacked by a land mafia who wanted their land.
The situation became very violent, and sadly, several people died, including an on-duty police officer and members of a tribal family.
Many tribal families also had to leave their homes.
A former politician filed a complaint asking for a special investigation by the CBI.
The High Court has now asked the government officials, including the police chief and top home department officials, to explain what happened and provide a report.
They want to understand why this violence occurred and why action wasn't taken sooner.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notices to top officials including the Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, Mauganj Collector, and SP regarding the Mauganj violence.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by former MLA Sukhendra Singh Banna seeking a CBI investigation into the incident.
The petition alleges that land mafia assaulted tribal families in Gadra village, attempting to force them to vacate their land.
The violence resulted in the death of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and an estimated six other individuals, including members of a tribal family.
Over 150 tribal families reportedly fled their homes following the violence, with the petitioner claiming authorities failed to act on previous complaints.
