Experts Slam US Tariffs on India Amidst Russian Oil Dispute
The US is charging India extra taxes (tariffs) on some products because India is buying oil from Russia.
Two experts, Raghuram Rajan and Fareed Zakaria, think this is a bad idea.
Rajan says it's like the US is bullying India and it will make it hard to reach a deal.
Zakaria points out that the tariffs don't make sense because China buys even more Russian oil, and the tariffs could cause problems in the US economy.
They both think the US might be hurting itself by doing this.
US imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, amid tensions over Russian oil purchases.
Economists Raghuram Rajan and Fareed Zakaria criticized the tariffs, citing potential economic and diplomatic consequences.
Rajan views the tariffs as 'an exercise of power,' making negotiations difficult.
Zakaria argues the tariffs are illogical and a reversal of bipartisan US foreign policy.
Both experts question the rationale behind the tariffs and their potential impact on global markets.
