PM Modi Opens Lok Sabha Debate on Vande Mataram's 150th Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a big talk in the Lok Sabha about the 150th birthday of the song Vande Mataram.
This song was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and was very important in India's fight for independence.
Many important people, including leaders from the Congress and BJP, will speak during the 10-hour debate.
PM Modi said that Vande Mataram gave power and inspiration to the country during the freedom struggle.
He also mentioned that the song was banned by the British and that it stood strong during the partition of Bengal.
The debate is to remind everyone, especially young people, about the importance of this song in India's history and culture.
The BJP and Congress have different views on the song, with the BJP wanting to sing the whole song and the Congress wanting to sing only parts of it.
The debate is part of a year-long celebration of the song's anniversary.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated a 10-hour debate in the Lok Sabha on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram on December 8, 2025.
The song, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, was first published in 1875 and later included in his novel Anandamath.
Vande Mataram became a rallying cry during India's freedom struggle and was set to tune by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896.
The Congress party will have multiple speakers, including Gaurav Gogoi and Priyanka Gandhi, while the BJP will also participate with key ministers.
PM Modi highlighted that Vande Mataram was banned by the British and stood strong during the partition of Bengal, inspiring unity.
