US, Taiwan Officials Held Secret Talks in Alaska
The US and Taiwan held secret talks in Alaska, which was a bit of a surprise!
It happened shortly before China showed off its military.
On the US side, Jed Royal, a top Pentagon official, attended the meeting.
Representing Taiwan was Hsu Szu-chien, who advises on national security.
These talks were kept low-key, possibly to avoid upsetting China while the US was also trying to negotiate a trade deal.
The meeting also took place after a previous, more important meeting was canceled.
Some experts think the US is trying to balance supporting Taiwan with the possibility of a deal with China.
US and Taiwan defence officials held secret talks in Alaska.
The meeting occurred just days before China's military parade.
Jed Royal represented the US, and Hsu Szu-chien represented Taiwan.
The meeting's low-profile nature was a deliberate attempt to keep the talks less noticeable.
The talks happened after a canceled meeting between more senior US and Taiwan officials.
