Delhi High Court Pauses Aadhaar Biometric Attendance for Prosecutors
The Delhi government said prosecutors had to record their attendance using an Aadhaar-linked biometric system.
The Delhi Prosecutors Welfare Association challenged that rule in court.
On Friday, the Delhi High Court temporarily paused the rule while it considers the new petition.
The challenged government order was issued on October 5.
It covered public prosecutors and two other kinds of prosecutors.
The association had brought a similar challenge before the court in August.
At that time, the court told the government to consider the matter and hear the association.
The Delhi High Court stayed a government order requiring Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance for prosecutors in the Capital.
Justice Amit Mahajan issued the stay as an interim measure while hearing a petition by the Delhi Prosecutors Welfare Association.
The association challenged an October 5 order from the Delhi government’s Directorate of Prosecution.
The order said the system was compulsory for public prosecutors, additional public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors.
In August, the High Court had directed the government to consider an earlier DPWA petition within four weeks and hear the association.
