Wagener Stadium Rekindles India-Pakistan Hockey Rivalry After 53 Years

India and Pakistan are going to play a big hockey match on Wednesday.

The game will happen at Wagener Stadium in the Netherlands.

The same stadium hosted a famous match between them in 1973.

India won that semifinal by one goal.

B P Govinda scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute.

Former captain M P Ganesh said the game felt like a “war of skills.”

The rivalry was especially intense because the countries had recently experienced political and military tension.

The players even kept their distance from one another during formal events.

India later lost the 1973 final to the Netherlands after the match ended tied.
