Maruti Suzuki Warns CAFE-III May Kill Small Cars
Maruti Suzuki, a big car company in India, says that new rules about car pollution might make small cars disappear.
They say small cars are safe and good for the environment because they use less fuel and produce less pollution.
Other car companies disagree and think the rules should be stricter to make all cars cleaner.
The government is trying to decide what to do, but Maruti Suzuki is worried that if the rules are too strict, small cars might not be made anymore.
They also say that small cars are safe and sold in many countries, so the rules should be fair and realistic.
Maruti Suzuki warns that strict CAFE-III norms could lead to the discontinuation of small cars in India.
The company argues that small cars are safe and environmentally friendly, with over 95% market share in the segment.
Other carmakers oppose the weight-based exemption, claiming it would compromise industry and environmental objectives.
The revised CAFE-III draft proposes a 3 g/km deduction in CO2 emissions for petrol vehicles weighing up to 909 kg, with engine capacity below 1,200 cc and length under 4,000 mm.
Maruti Suzuki emphasizes that small cars follow the same crash test regulations as larger vehicles and are exported to over 100 countries.
