Priyanka Gandhi urges PM to waive Wayanad landslide victims' loans

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi multiple times asking him to cancel the loans taken by people affected by the big landslides in Wayanad, Kerala.

These landslides happened in July 2024 and caused a lot of damage, with over 200 people losing their lives.

Priyanka says that giving money as loans to these victims is not fair, especially since they have lost their homes and jobs.

She also wants the central government to turn the loans given for disaster relief into grants, which means the state wouldn't have to pay them back.

The Kerala High Court has said that the central government can do this under the Constitution.

Priyanka has been asking for this help for a long time, and all Kerala MPs even met with the Home Minister in December 2024 to discuss the issue.
