CICC to Pay 2024 Bonuses After Delay
CICC, a big investment bank in China, is finally giving out bonuses for 2024 after a long delay.
The delay happened because of new rules about how much bankers can earn and because CICC was talking about buying other smaller banks.
The bonuses won't be as big as what bankers get in other countries, but they are better than what Chinese bankers have gotten in recent years.
The bank's business is doing well, and it's the top bank for new stock sales in Hong Kong this year.
However, the Chinese government has been trying to make sure bankers don't earn too much money, so salaries and bonuses have been cut.
CICC to distribute 2024 bonuses worth 2-3 months of base salary after a long delay.
Delay caused by government crackdown on banker compensation and ongoing acquisition talks.
Base salaries cut by 25% to 30% starting in 2023, with annual salary cap at 2.9 million yuan for senior executives.
CICC's net income more than doubled in the first nine months of 2024, ranking No. 1 for IPOs in Hong Kong this year.
Bonuses are significantly lower than what overseas rivals pay, with Wall Street expected to break bonus records this year.
