MLC Seeks Mining Rule Changes to Revive Construction
Construction work in Dakshina Kannada has stopped because they can't get red stones for building.
This has made things tough for many workers and small business owners.
A local leader, Dr. Manjunath Bhandari, says the rules for getting the stones are too strict, especially the ones made by the previous government.
He wants the government to make it easier to get the stones by lowering the cost and making it easier to get permission.
There are also some problems with getting sand from the sea, and he wants the government to fix those issues too.
Red laterite stone mining halt in Dakshina Kannada halts construction.
Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dr. Manjunath Bhandari says workers are facing hardship.
Stringent mining rules, framed by the previous government, are restrictive.
Dr. Bhandari suggests a 50% royalty rebate and relaxed licensing.
Approval is sought for pending sand mining proposals in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
