Carney Backs Canada-Europe Ties for National Resilience

Carney Backs Canada-Europe Ties for National Resilience

Mark Carney is Canada's prime minister.

He said Canada should build a closer partnership with the European Union.

One idea is for Canada to become the European Union's first associate member.

Carney said this partnership would make Canada more resilient.

He wants Canada to have strong relationships with more than one major partner.

He said no single country should be able to control Canada's markets.

He also said closer ties could help protect Canada's independence.

He spoke about this plan at the European Parliament while tensions with the United States were noticeable.
